sling: 투석기, 팔걸이 붕대, 던지다, 내쫓다, 매다, 그냥 확 던지다, 포대기

한 소년이 돌을 sling[투석기] 을 이용해 던지고 있네요

rattle: 달그닥 거리는 소리, 불안하게 만들다, 버스나 기차등이 시끄럽게 움직이다

- walking in a proud way with their head held high and their chest out as if they are important

hearty: 따뜻한, 쾌활한, 푸짐한

assailant: 폭행범

yield: 항복하다, 넘겨주다

convoy: 호송대

 - in convoy: 무리를 이뤄

- we drove in convoy because I don't know the route

on the thick: in the most active or dangerous part of a particular situation or activity, busy

- I'm afraid I'm really in the thick of things at the moment

chastise: 태형을 가하다/ beat / scold / reprimand / rebuke/ chide 

- I don't want you to chastise yourself

scourge: 채찍, 괴롭히다, 고통을 안겨주다

- they're scourged 

lest : 하지 않도록

- lest you should forget

- lest you feel pain

scowl: 노려보다, 노려봄

- He scowled down 

- he wore a scowl

catch one's breath: 한숨 돌리다, 잠시 숨을 가다듬다

enchant: delight/ bewitch /  마법을 걸다, 황홀하게 만들다, 넋을 잃게 만들다

lad: 구식, 청년

jut: 튀어나오다, stick out above or beyond a surface / protrude

- A row of small windows jutted out from the roof

muddle:뒤죽박죽을 만들다/ jumble, scramble, tangle 혼란스럽게 하다 bewilder, perplex, confound, 정신적 혼란상태

- My papers are all in a muddle

- I won't explain - it'll only muddle you

disdainfully: 경멸하며 dismissive, contemptuous
